Free Online Excel Editor — Open and Edit XLSX Right in Your Browser
Open an XLSX, edit it the way you would in Excel, save it back. The free Jspreadsheet online editor runs in your browser with 500+ formulas, charts, conditional formatting, data validation, multi-sheet workbooks, and XLSX, CSV or PDF export.
How to use the online Excel editor
Three steps from a closed file to a saved spreadsheet.
1. Upload or start fresh
Drag an XLSX, XLS, XLSM, XLSB or CSV into the editor. Or start from a blank workbook.
2. Edit and format
Type formulas, sort rows, add charts, set conditional formatting. Every shortcut you know from Excel works here.
3. Download or print
Save as XLSX, CSV, TSV or PDF. Or print straight from the browser. The file stays on your machine.
Want this Excel editor inside your own app?
You're already using the Jspreadsheet JavaScript library — that's what's running this page. Drop it into React, Vue, Angular or plain JS and keep all of it: 400+ formulas, charts, XLSX import and export. Samsung, Deloitte and Johnson & Johnson run it in production.
Frequently asked questions
Pricing & privacy
Is this Excel editor really free?
Yes. No account, no trial period, no watermark on your exports. Open the page and start editing.
Are my files private?
Yes. The editor runs entirely in your browser. Files are read, edited and saved on your device. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is logged. Close the tab and the data is gone.
Is there a file-size limit?
There's no server-side limit because nothing is uploaded. Speed depends on your computer: most files open instantly, very large workbooks (50k+ rows or 10+ MB) may take a couple of seconds.
Does it work on mobile?
It works on desktop and tablet. The editor opens on phones too, but the screen is too small for real editing. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all work.
File formats & export
Which file formats can I open?
XLSX, XLS, XLSM, XLSB and CSV. Formulas, multiple worksheets and most cell formatting come through on import.
Which formats can I export?
Excel (XLSX), CSV, TSV or PDF. You can also print straight to your default printer.
Editing features
Which Excel formulas are supported?
500+ functions, including SUM, IF, VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, XLOOKUP, the full date and text families, plus array formulas. Cross-sheet references like =Sheet2!A1 work the same as Excel.
Can I work with multiple worksheets?
Yes. Add, rename, reorder and delete tabs from the bottom of the editor. Each workbook can hold as many sheets as your browser can handle.
Does it support Excel keyboard shortcuts?
Most of them. Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Y, Ctrl+F (find & replace), Ctrl+\ (clear formatting), arrow-key navigation, range selection — all behave as you'd expect.
Can I add charts?
Yes. Select a range, choose bar, line, pie or scatter, and the chart appears in the sheet. It updates automatically when the underlying data changes.
Can I add data validation, comments and hyperlinks?
Yes to all three. Restrict input to a list, range or custom rule; attach a comment to any cell; insert links by URL or cell reference.
Comparison & embedding
How is this different from Excel Online or Google Sheets?
Both of those need an account and store your file on their servers. This editor doesn't. There's no sign-in and your file never leaves your laptop.
Can I use this in my own web app?
Yes. The engine that powers this page is the Jspreadsheet JavaScript library. You can embed it in your own product, with your own data, your own UI and your own auth.
