Syntax

GAMMAINV(probability, alpha, beta)

Parameter Description
probability The probability that corresponds to the gamma distribution.
alpha A parameter that specifies the shape of the distribution. Alpha must be greater than 0.
beta A parameter that specifies the scale of the distribution. Beta must be greater than 0.

Behavior

The GAMMAINV function calculates the inverse of the cumulative gamma distribution function for a specified probability, alpha, and beta.

  • If any of the arguments are non-numeric, GAMMAINV returns a #VALUE! error.
  • If any of the arguments are less than or equal to zero, GAMMAINV returns a #NUM! error.
  • If probability < 0 or if probability > 1, GAMMAINV returns a #NUM! error.
  • Empty cells within the range are treated as zeros.
  • Text representations of numbers that you type directly into the list of arguments are counted.
  • Boolean values are also considered as numeric values: TRUE as 1 and FALSE as 0.

Common Errors

Error Description
#VALUE! If any of the arguments are non-numeric, GAMMAINV returns a #VALUE! error.
#NUM! If alpha, beta, or probability is less than or equal to zero, or if probability is less than 0 or greater than 1.
